Audacity : Basics    Setting up for Voice Recording

Prior to recording, first set up your computer to recognize your microphone. Click Start - Control Panel and this screen will appear.

Click on Sounds and Audio Devices

Click the Volume tab and then Advanced under Device Volume

Select Options - Properties

Select the Recording radio button. Make sure that the microphone plug connection that you wish to use is selected (Your computer may have only one microphone in connection)

Select OK

The Recording Control screen should now appear.

1. Select the microphone port you wish to use.

2. Select the Advanced button.

You may find it useful to select the microphone boost option. If later you find that the microphone sound is too loud or of poor quality, come back to this screen and de-select this box.

Close this screen
  Click on the image for page view.

Close the Recording Control Screen

Select OK on the Sounds and Audio Device Properties screen.

Now, we're ready to make adjustments to the Audacity program.
