This tutorial will show you step by step how to create an HTML Help file. You need to first install the Microsoft HTML Help compiler from this url:

You'll be creating a Screenbook Bookshelf and then creating tutorials in that bookshelf. When you're ready you can then convert the bookshelf to a HTML Help (chm) file.

Select New from the Bookshelf pulldown.

The New Bookshelf dialog opens. Enter a name and location for your new bookshelf.

The new Bookshelf has been created.

Next we'll create a tutorial in this bookshelf. Enter Ctl-N to open the New Book dialog. Fill out the dialog as appropriate.

When you click OK, the main screen hides and the  Edit Book dialog appears. (The dialog for Screenbook Maker Pro is shown, it is slightly different than the Screenbook Maker free edition). Add some text and a screenshot. (Add a screenshot by clicking on the Snap button).

When we click Finish our new one page Screenbook shows in the main form. Let's go ahead and convert this bookshelf to an HTML Help file.

When we right-click on the Bookshelf, the Bookshelf popup displays. We'll select Advanced - Create HTML Help.

The HTML Help Workshop program displays. Click on the compile button.

The Create a compiled file dialog shows. Note: if quotation marks appear in the text box, remove them.

Click Compile.

Our new chm file has been compiled and information is showing in the log window.

Now we've closed the HTML Workshop and returned to the main screen of Screenbook Maker. Our new chm file is stored in the Bookshelf folder. Right click to display the popup menu and select View in Windows Explorer.

Windows Explorer opens. Our CHM file is named sbooks.chm.
