| Word 2000 : Basics Opening a Document from the Internet |
Page 1You can open an MS Word document that is located on an Internet site. One way is to do this with your browser. In this screenshot, Internet Explorer has been opened to a page that has a link to an MS Word document. Page 2Here we've scrolled down the page to where there is a link to an MS Word document. Page 3This opens the Word document in the browser, but the MS Word menubar now appears in the browser, so the browser has in effect turned into MS Word. Page 4You can also open the same document directly in MS Word. Here we've opened MS Word. Page 6Enter the URL of the document into the File Name text box. (The URL is the address that appears in the browser when you navigate to a page. We've simply copied this from the preceeding page.) Page 8The document opens in MS Word. Notice that the document is now Read-Only. This is because the document is still located on the web server, not on your local machine. If you want to edit the document, you must save it to your machine. Page 9Let's save the document to your machine so that you can edit it. Click on the Save icon. Page 11We are now looking at a copy of the document that is located on your machine's hard disk (in the My Documents folder), so it is no longer Read Only. |
