You can change the alignment or identation of selected text by using the icons indicated.

Here we've used the indicated button to remove the indentation of the selected text.

You can also change paragraph identation with the ruler.

Here we've moved the indicated tool, and the indentation of the current paragraph (where the text cursor is) has changed.

This tool will change the left indentation of the entire paragraph.

Tabs can be used to line up text in your document. Here a document has been opened with columns of data separated by tabs.

Click on the indicated icon to show the tabs (and other spatial formatting characters).

The tabs are shown as arrows. Some of the columns are not lining up correctly because the tab settings are too narrow.

The indicated item is the tab tool. This indicates that tab settings will be for left tabs.

Clicking on the tab icon changs the icon to that for a center tab.

This is the icon for a right tab.

This is a bar tab. Bar tabs display a vertical line, which can be helpful with columns of data.

Press Ctrl-A to select all of the text in this document.

Clicking in the ruler at the indicated area causes the first tab stop to be at this location. Now the column after the first tab is lining up under this tab stop.

Here we've set the second tab, causing the column of data after the second tab to line up.

The final spacial formatting feature we'll demonstrate is line spacing. Here we've returned to the document used in previous tutorials. Click on Format - Paragraph.

The paragraph dialog appears. This dialog can be used to change the paragraph indentation, and line spacing,  and the top and bottom margins of the paragraph.

Here we have changed to single line spacing, with a 30 pt top and bottom margin.
